Finance

The Oxford student funding website should have all the information you need regarding fees and student loans. It's no more expensive to come to Oxford than any other UK university - with all the funding available, subsidised costs and resources available... it may even work out cheaper to go to Oxford!

Living Costs

You can get by on even the smallest of budgets and that doesn't even require a daily dinner of beans on toast. Food in hall is cheap (Lunch: £2, Dinner: £2.50) and you'd only have to cook or eat out on the weekends or when you fancy treating yourself. Everywhere is a walkable distance and there's no particular need for taxis or buses, so transport cost: £0. St Anne's library is amazing and all the books that you require for your course will be available in one of the libraries, so cost for course books: £0. You'll find out from your friends that having a well stocked library with enough books to go around is a unique thing to Oxford, and especially useful when the reading lists are pretty long or textbooks really expensive. Other costs incurred may be for stationary, laundry, printing (3p/sheet), snacks and going out. Rent is pretty standard at just over £1000 per term, and you're only paying for the time you're living there during term time. You'll get accommodation in college for your whole degree if you want it - which is great value for money as college rooms are much nicer than the local housing options. Also, since terms are short you'll only be at uni for 24 weeks each year so you won't have to pay rent over vacations when you'll be living at home!

Oxford Opportunity Bursary

Oxford has one of, if not THE best bursary scheme in the country. Based on parental income, if you qualify for a maintenance grant you will automatically receive the Oxford Opportunity Bursary. If your household income is below £50,000 you will receive a bursary to a maximum value of £4100 in your first year, and £3225 each year thereafter... paid directly into your bank account by the College. On top of this, if you receive OOB you can apply for an enhanced bursary where companies give you an extra £1000 a year and summer vacation work experience opportunities. More information here.

Travel Grants

Travel Grants are made possible by the generosity of former St Anne's students, and can help if you want to do something exciting during a vacation. Awards are made on the basis of academic merit and cultural enhancement of the trip, so you can't just go clubbing in Greece for free! Application forms are outside the Principal's office in Hilary and Trinity terms for travel in the Easter and summer vacations respectively. Last year 57 travel grants totaling £11,410 were awarded, and projects included traveling with the nomadic peoples of the south-western desert in Iran, attending a summer school in South Korea and teaching English to children in Argentina. Previous student reports can be found here.

Other St Anne's funding opportunities

If you do really well in your exams the college will award you a scholarship, which doesn't pay all your fees but it means some extra pocket money to say congratulations. The college also has links with companies through the alumni which offer sponsorships and internships. All students can audition for the chance to receive some money to spend on music tuition and equipment, and two music bursaries are awarded each year. More information on scholarships can be found here.

There are opportunities to work in college during term time, in the bar in the evenings or shelving books in the library. Many students work at home during vacations as well.
