Entz

Entz (as in 'entertainments', i.e. bops, formals and club nights) are the responsibility of the entz reps. They're in charge of making sure students really enjoy their time here. They mainly look after events within College, but if you want to know about any other aspect of Oxford nightlife, you'd go and see either one of these two crazy kids.

Bops

'The Bop': A term familiar to most Oxford students, essentially a themed party for everyone in college, giving you chance to let your hair down and get away from the pressures of Oxford life.

These take place about twice a term. They're a great way to get into the spirit of college life, as they are one of the only occasions when everyone gets together to have a good time. It's a chance to dress up, take advantage of the cheap deals on offer and boogie down with all your friends. Themes range from the sublime to the ridiculous and you really don't have to worry how much effort you put in, although bear in mind prizes will be given to the best dressed. It's amazing how much you can do with a cardboard box!

College Bar

As bar rep I'd like to welcome you all to bask in St Anne's chamber of dreams, purveyor of fine(ish) drinks and hall of glory - the bar. We've got pool tables (30p a play), darts, games and quiz machines, a plasma screen TV, games and jukebox. Sounds good, no?

The bar plays host to St Anne's renowned open mic night: a chance to show off your musical skills. Come down to the bar for the big sports and movies nights, plus next term we're bringing back karaoke and pizza nights.

Drinks are cheap and times are gooood. Generally the college bar is a relaxed space to come to after a hard day's work as well as a great place to meet before heading into town.

Formal Hall

Formal Hall: A great Oxford tradition, the antithesis to the bop, formals are a sophisticated occasion. The boys get out their suits and the girls put on their most glamorous dresses. Get ready for three courses of decadence accompanied by the finest wine. These events can be very special, particularly at St Anne's, since unlike other colleges they only happen five times a term. Tickets can be bought the week before at a very reasonable price, as long as you get hold of one before they sell out!

Nightlife

Apart from the weird and wonderful college bops, there are lots of great places to go in Oxford to socialise in the evenings, covering all tastes! There's always something going on to interest everyone, as well as the examples below, societies across the university host evening events which will often give you a dilemma as there's so much on!

A few quick examples of tried and tested evening options:

- The Bridge, Lava Ignite, Kukui if you're looking for a fun, student night out with club classics on the stereo.

- Babylove or the Cellar for a more alternative night out with Indie, Reggae and Electro as the preferred soundtrack.

- O2 Academy on Cowley Road for gigs / DJ sets of local talent and national names, always great fun.

- College/Union Balls, a good chance to mingle with people from other colleges!

- Go for a meal at the Jericho Tavern/Branca for some local good food.

- The cocktail bars Angels and the Duke of Cambridge in Little Claredon Street are nice for a sophisticated evening.

- Local Oxford ice cream cafe chain G&D's will satisfy your sweet tooth, serving homemade ice cream, cakes and bagels till midnight.

- Why not go and see a play? (or get involved yourself!) So much choice: from Shakespeare to new student writing-check out the student papers for events

- Want to see a film? There are two Odeon cinemas and a local independent cinema showing a wider variety of international films, or you can go for the cheaper option and rent films from the college library!

- The Oxford ice skating rink can be a fun night out, and once a week there's alternative ice hockey from midnight until the wee hours of the morning.
